YARID – setting refugees on a resilience path
YARID is short for Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID). For the last 15 years, YARID work remains centered on community-driven solutions to build up refugees on a resilient path.
YARID core programs support women and youth to learn new skills and start businesses, meet urgent and basic protection needs of refugee families, prepare people to apply for jobs, teach English, equip the next generation with digital skills through ICT training, and support refugee children to gain quality education. Every year, YARID directly serves over 8,000 individuals across Uganda.
YARID believe refugees lead the way in creating solutions to sustain livelihoods and build cohesive communities. The following are the details of YARID’s support services
Women’s Empowerment & Livelihoods provides vocational skills training like tailoring, hairdressing, business development support, and life skills workshops to empower refugee women to build economic resilience.
YARID’s English for Adults (EFA) classes support refugees to learn English and integrate into Ugandan society. EFA alumni started the YARID English Club to support advanced learning and practice of the English language. English Club is a peer-led group that empowers students to interact with their neighbours and build social cohesion.
YARID protection services support families with burial support, purchasing life-saving medicines, distributing mother care kits, providing food coupons, mental health counselling, and a strong referral network of partners for continued care.
ICT brings refugees into the digital world. The YARID ICT Program trains refugees in computer literacy, smartphone technology, emailing, basic web design, social media, and other valuable online skills to bridge the digital divide.

The Refugee Workforce Partnership is a refugee-led employment solution. YARID prepares refugees to gain formal employment in Uganda through job readiness training, job placement services, and building a network of pro-refugee employers.
