Event Details

  • Theme: Partnerships for the Goals
  • Date: 1st December 2024
  • Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval Grounds, Kampala
  • Guest of Honor: H.E. Gen. Yoweri K. Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda

This year’s event is expected to gather over 50,000 participants from diverse sectors, including government, UN agencies, international organizations, corporate entities, civil society, youth groups, and the media.

Running Toward Inclusivity and Environmental Restoration

The proceeds from the run will support the establishment of regional nursery beds to grow 20 million indigenous tree seedlings. This initiative aligns with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030) and aims to combat climate change while contributing to Uganda’s forest restoration efforts. For refugees, whose lives are often tied closely to the natural environment, these actions promote resilience, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.

Why Refugees Matter in Sustainable Development

Uganda hosts over 1.5 million refugees, many of whom face challenges in accessing basic resources and economic opportunities. Initiatives like the SDG Run help raise awareness about how environmental restoration directly benefits refugee settlements by providing sustainable resources such as firewood, fruit, and shade while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
